Year 6
In music, Year 6 have been learning about ternary structures. We listened to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky ‘March of the Toy Soldiers’ which is a ternary piece.
If like us, you don’t know anything about what a ternary structure is, it is quite simply an ABA structure; piece of music for voice or instrument with three different sections. Section A are the same and section B is different.
We used this video to help us understand.

We then used the Songmaker website to create our own ternary pieces.

The children had a great time structuring a ternary piece of music on the i-Pads whilst experimenting with the dynamic and the tempo too. They are looking forward to composing some ternary pieces on the glockenspiels.
