Year 5 Remembrance Day Poetry - November 2021
Date: 7th Feb 2022 @ 4:38pm
When we had parents in on the 11th November, we felt it would be the ideal opportunity to mark Remembrance Day by exploring the poetry from the First World War. As a class, we explored three poems: Wilfred Owen's Dulce et Decorum Est, In Flanders Fields by John McRae and extracts of For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon. Having watched animated readings of these poems, the children then created 'blackout poetry' to focus on the emotive language used by the poets. We produced some striking artwork that highlighted the language whilst also containing symbols of Remembrance Day. Thank you to all parents that came and helped to make the session such a success.
