An exciting term of gingerbread, beanstalks and wolves!
Date: 9th Feb 2024 @ 11:24am
What a swift but full half term we have had!
We have been focusing on traditionals stories for this half term and linking all of our learning to three specific tales: The Gingerbread Man, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood.
The Gingerbread Man
Jack and the Beanstalk
As part of our focus on Jack and the Beanstalk it was wonderful to welcome in our parents to one of our English wiriting lessons - we hope you enjoyed creating a book with your child! All the children have planted their own beanstalks which are currently growing well in the classrooms - hopedfully there might be a giant one amongst them!
Little Red Riding Hood
We moved on to focusing on Little Red Riding Hood for the last two weeks of term and have explored Little Red Riding Hood's journey to Grandma's cottage. The children created their own map of the journey, making sure to include the characters of the story. We also independently created a list of items we would take to one of our grown-ups if they were poorly with the children working really hard to sound out all of the unfamiliar words that they wanted to write.
We used our research skills to find out facts about wolves - looking at non-fiction resources that are available to use and then creating a mind map of all the words we could find that describe these amazing animals.
The children have been showing off their artist skills as well this week, producing some amazing wolf art.
In our maths learning we have been delving deeper into height, length, mass and capacity with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor learning on these themes.
Enterprise Event
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Chinese New Year celebration on Thursday, it was wonderful to share our learning environment with you and we hope you enjoyed a relaxed afternoon of paper crafts.
We hope all of the children have enjoyed this term, have a wonderful half-term break and we will see you back in class on Tuesday 20th February!
